Beginner DJ Equipment

By

If you are considering entering the wild world of DJing as a hobby or as a potential career, you may be wondering where to begin. It is no secret that the art of DJing is something that requires skill, and how do you obtain this skill, by practice. Everyone starts somewhere, you just need to know the right tools and practices to follow as a novice DJ. Besides dedication, purchasing the right beginner dj equipment is the key to starting your training right.

Many people are skeptical in investing so much money on a practice that could potentially become a failed hobby, but do not be worried, there is something out there for everyone on even a limited budget. Having a set of turntables at home allows you the convenience of practicing privately in the comfort of your own home, anytime you want.

While mixing, there are many components of DJ equipment that are used in conjunction with one another, and they must be used skillfully in order to receive a good reception from the crowd. Disk Jockey equipment is similar to a musical instrument, and must be played accordingly. But how do you choose the best instrument for your needs?

First off, like any purchase, set a strict and realistic budget. Make sure you stick to this budget if price is a key factor in your equipment decision. While there are CD players on the market targeted to the beginner DJ, there is nothing quite like mixing vinyl. Aside from the fact that all new releases and club mixes are released first on vinyl, there is nothing like the feeling of mixing vinyl records on a turntable.

A popular tunrtable for the beginner on a budget is the Stanton T80, and this will kick off your DJ set up. The Stanton turntable is affordable costing less than $400 for two turntables (yes you need two to mix!), and offering the features necessary for the beginner. This is a Direct Drive turntable that offers the best torque for your buck, giving you enough power to get started. When you transition from beginner to experienced you will need to upgrade to a better model offering better tone arms for mixing and scratching, but this will do for practicing purposes.

The next piece of equipment, well really an accessory for your equipment, are two turntable slip mats. If you are tapped out after the turntable purchase you can also make turntable slip mats out of felt, since that is really all they are selling to you for an inflated price at the store

You will then need a DJ mixer. Numark offers mixers at an affordable price that have different settings you can practice on. With this you can experiment the settings and start to develop your own unique style. Now you will top your set off right with your headphones, the piece that completes the puzzle. These are typically pretty low priced compared to the other needed equipment.

So there it is, the beginner equipment needed for the DJing novice. You will have to spend between $500 and $700 for a decent beginners set up, but it is well worth it when your practice leads to a highly profitable DJ career.
