Black Velvet Curtains

After purchasing a delicious-looking velvet comforter set for my bedroom, which just happened to be black, I noticed that my drapes no longer conformed with the color scheme. When I first thought of black velvet, I admit black velvet curtains simply did not seem very appealing.

I decided to search the local stores and the internet for ideas and along the way entered a store that the most beautiful black drapes I had ever seen. The economy being what it is today, I could not afford them but I did look them over very carefully.

Visiting all manner of fabric shops and searching through skeins of different black velvets over the span of three weeks, I entered the fabric shop nearest my home one day and there it was! I could barely contain my excitement as I walked straight to it. Although the fabric I needed was a little higher priced than I had expected, it was exactly what I had been searching for.

The pattern which was in deep, contrasted curves and flowers coupled with the cozy, comforting feel of the material for my black velvet curtains was awesome! It took me approximately four days to make them with very little difficulty. The rods I chose to hang them with were made of material that looked as though it were antique silver. Behind them I chose to hang white lace sheers, which would absorb some of the rays of the sun thereby protecting them and then I made tiebacks from the same beautiful black velvet for those times when the sunlight would be enjoyable.

After hanging them and admiring my craftsmanship as well as the ambiance they brought to the room, I realized I had made the perfect choice.

Due to the inherent durability of the black velvet material, they will last and retain their loveliness for many years to come. My black velvet curtains are also capable of providing darkness when closed, blocking the early morning sunlight from my sleepy morning eyes, which in my case is a definite advantage.

Little did I comprehend that when I chose to make these remarkable black velvet curtains that they contained another magical quality. My black velvet curtains retained the heating and coolness of my home preventing a useless waste of energy and my hard earned money.
